Here you will find all the information you need to know about Christchurch’s local transport options. If you need to know how to get to and from the hostel, how to find the local bus exchange and bus network information, trains and taxi’s, You have come to the right place.
Christchurch is a pretty small city, so we don’t really have a metro train network or underground subway system so in most cases, you will find the buses are the best way of getting around the suburbs of Christchurch, out to the beach or across the city.
You may want to use one of the many Lime scooters placed around the city for short trips. Lime scooters are an electrically powered scooter hire service available in Christchurch that involves downloading an app and using that to unlock the scooter for use in short trips around the city. You can visit the Lime website here for more information.
Christchurch has a large range of taxi providers and of course the very popular Uber ride sharing service is available in Christchurch as well and is generally a lot cheaper than using taxis.
If you are wanting to travel around the South Island or from Christchurch to another city, the best option is to probably take one of the many intercity bus options which are separate from the metro bus system. The other option is to hire a car or even look at the options to fly as sometime you can get some pretty good deals on flights.
If you need any more help, advice or assistance, our staff are always available to help you with any questions you might have and are happy to help you with booking your transport, tours or helping you make any bookings you might require.
Getting to and from the airport to the hostel is easy in Christchurch. Whilst there are lots of options, the cheapest and easiest options are to either get a Bus, and Uber or an Airport shuttle.
Our hostel is located in the centre of Christchurch City and within walking distance to the City’s Bus Exchange, and depending on the time of your arrival and your luggage, this is probably your cheapest option. The number 29 Airport -City via Fendalton route is the fastest and most direct option but it would be a good idea to check the timetable as these do not run all night.
An Uber is a great option if you are travelling alone or as a couple and these can be booked as usual through the Uber app on your smartphone. Your Uber can pick you up and drop you off at the airport and you can find instructions on the designated pick up and drop off points on the Uber website.
Airport shuttles can be handy for late night drop offs to the airport but are less convenient on arrival to Christchurch as they generally require booking in advance and often means you have to wait for a bunch of other people to get dropped off or picked up.
