Ballooning Canterbury

Ballooning Canterbury was started by Kate and Michael Oakley in 2012. Michael is an experienced pilot who had represented New Zealand at World Hot Air Balloon Championships and now wanted to take his passion further by showing off his beautiful country to others from a sport he loves to share.

Ballooning Canterbury operate three balloons all from the Cameron balloon factory in Bristol England. They carry the latest technology in fabric, burners and basket design. They are well maintain by an experienced and qualified engineer. Both pilots are also trained in pilot maintenance from the Cameron factory.

Waimak River Riding Centre (previously Waimak River Horse Treks and Waimak River Adventures) was established by Erika and Stan McStay in February 2001. We have now combined our horse trekking, riding school, holiday programs and leasing into one business, Waimak River Riding Centre.

Horses are our passion, and we are dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable horse riding experience. Our calm, experienced and well trained horses, experienced guides and instructors work together to ensure the best environment for fun and learning.

International Antarctic Centre

Located on the International Antarctic Programme’s working campus at Christchurch Airport, the centre has become renowned as one of New Zealand’s most diverse and dynamic tourist attractions. The range of interactive experiences here provides fun, education and excitement for visitors of all ages.

Here you’ll experience real snow and ice and you’ll survive an indoor Antarctic storm. You’ll learn about life at Scott Base and see what it takes to work on the ice. You’ll hang out with Little Blue Penguins and snuggle in with huskies. There’s also the exciting Hägglund ride, an awesome 4D theatre, a massive HD screen and lots, lots more.


Christchurch Art Gallery

The Christchurch Art Gallery is home to a substantial public art collection, and also showcases various national and international exhibitions throughout the year. It opened in 2003, replacing the city’s former Robert McDougall Art Gallery.

Following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, the gallery’s premises were used as the local Civil Defence headquarters. Despite being designed to withstand seismic damage, the gallery remained closed until 2015 to receive extensive fortifications and refurbishments.
